Our story

Precision engineering, shaped by the demands of Australian installations.

PITON was founded in 2007 in Sydney by a team of protection-device engineers who identified a fundamental gap in the Australian market: too many circuit breakers were designed for laboratory specifications, not for the switchboards that electricians actually install.

So they built a company around one principle — every product, before it receives a part number, must be validated by a licensed electrician on a real switchboard. The pillar terminal must accept 16 mm² conductors. The neutral position must align with AS/NZS 3000 wiring conventions. The trip indicator must be visible at standing height.

Nearly two decades on, we still test every new release on a real switchboard before it leaves engineering. Our R1‑E single‑module RCBO was developed in direct response to feedback from electrical professionals who needed full RCBO protection without sacrificing valuable DIN‑rail space.

We focus exclusively on modular DIN‑rail protection devices rated up to 63 A. No industrial switchgear, no consumer electronics — just the core hardware that keeps every circuit safe, designed and tested to the highest international standards.

Milestones

From three SKUs to a full protection-device catalogue.

2007

PITON Electric founded in Sydney

A small team of protection-device engineers, three SKUs of 1P miniature circuit breakers, and a single Australian wholesaler.

2011

IEC 60898 type‑testing in our own lab

Dedicated short‑circuit and endurance testing facility commissioned. CB Scheme recognition follows the same year.

2015

Electromagnetic RCBO line launched

R1-DE/FE and R2-DE/FE series — electromagnetic trip RCBOs certified to IEC 61009-1 and AS/NZS 61009.1.

2019

Single‑module 1P+N RCBO prototype

The first electronic RCBO that fits the footprint of a 1P MCB. Now sold as the R1‑E series.

2022

M2-E 10 kA MCB series launch

Extended MCB range with 10 kA breaking capacity, B/C/D curves for commercial and industrial applications.

2026

Full catalogue release — 350 SKUs

8 series across MCB, RCBO and Changeover Switch. Complete B/C/D curves, all pole configurations, 6 and 10 kA.

Quality & testing

Every device undergoes four stages of verification before release.

Our dedicated testing facilities verify the full battery of IEC 61009 / 60898 / 61008 requirements. Third‑party witness testing for CB Scheme and S‑mark is performed at TÜV SÜD and KEMA.

01 · Dielectric

2 kV / 1 min withstand

Every breaker hi‑pot tested between poles, between poles and earth, and across open contacts.

02 · Short circuit

Up to 10 kA at 240 V

Full Icn and Ics sequences at our 80 m² short‑circuit cell — bus‑bar to bus‑bar, on real prospective fault currents.

03 · Endurance

10,000 mechanical cycles

Robotic switching rigs verify contact wear, latch reliability and tripping repeatability over the life of the product.

04 · Trip curves

Time‑current verification

Every batch sampled for B and C curve compliance — calibrated current source, oscillograph, log‑log plot to standard.

Operations

Three warehouses, one national network.

01 · Sydney

Head office & primary warehouse

National headquarters, engineering support, and primary distribution centre. All 350 SKUs held on stock for next-day dispatch to NSW, ACT and QLD metro.

02 · Melbourne

Southern distribution

Full-range stocking warehouse serving VIC, SA and TAS. Local technical support for switchboard builders and system integrators.

03 · Brisbane

Queensland hub

Dedicated warehouse for QLD and northern NSW. Fast turnaround on project orders and contractor supply.

04 · Quality assurance

Testing & certification

Dedicated short-circuit, endurance, and dielectric testing facilities. CB Scheme and S‑mark certification via TÜV SÜD and KEMA.
